Dear Colleagues,

After tens of thousands of years of evolution and natural selection, nature has nurtured extremely rich species resources and also produced a huge number of natural products with diverse structures. These secondary metabolites from microorganisms and physiologically active compounds from plants and animals on land and in the sea have a wide range of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-aging, and so on. Free radicals are the intermediate metabolites of various biochemical reactions in life activities, which have high chemical activity and are an important part of the effective defense system of the body. However, excessive production of free radicals without timely removal will attack macromolecules and organelles of life in the body and cause damage to molecules, cells, tissues, and organs of the body, accelerating the aging of the body and inducing various diseases. The antioxidant activity of natural products has become a hot topic in basic and medical translational research in recent years. They can reduce the occurrence and development of oxidative-stress-related diseases. Although antioxidant activities of natural products have been studied, their structures, biosynthetic processes, and antioxidant mechanisms need to be further explored. In addition, with the rapid development of bioinformatics, network pharmacology and other interdisciplinary disciplines, how to use these new methods to study the antioxidant activity of natural products has been challenging but necessary.

For this Special Issue, authors are invited to contribute original research articles or commentaries on the molecular mechanisms of antioxidant action and the effects on specific metabolic or signaling pathways of naturally sourced antioxidants. Other topics related to this topic are also welcome.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
