Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit original research articles or comprehensive reviews to the Special Issue entitled “Phytochemicals in Medicinal Plants: From Extraction to Bioactivity”.

Medicinal plants have a long-standing history of use in traditional medicine worldwide, particularly in developing countries, where they are employed as natural remedies for the management and treatment of a wide variety of human diseases. Over time, they have attracted growing interest as valuable sources of bioactive compounds with diverse pharmacological effects, supporting their relevance in modern drug discovery and development. The remarkable biodiversity of medicinal plant species provides access to an extensive repertoire of phytochemicals with potential health-promoting properties. In parallel, advances in extraction technologies and analytical methodologies have greatly facilitated the isolation, characterization, and identification of bioactive constituents from medicinal plants, thereby opening new avenues for the development of innovative therapeutic agents.

This Special Issue aims to gather recent findings and advances in phytochemical research from medicinal plants and to provide novel insights into their potential applications in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic fields. Contributions addressing the optimization of extraction procedures, detailed chemical characterization, and the evaluation of the biological properties of extracts, fractions, and isolated compounds are particularly encouraged. Studies elucidating the relationship between phytochemical profiles and the biological activity of plant-derived bioactive compounds are especially welcome, as they can significantly contribute to the rational valorization of medicinal plant resources.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
