Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Topical Collection, entitled “Feature Papers in Microbial Biotechnology”, will bring together outstanding research and review articles that showcase current advances and emerging trends in microbial biotechnology. It will highlight innovative approaches that harness microorganisms and microbial systems for sustainable bioproduction, health-related applications, environmental solutions, and next-generation industrial processes. Particular emphasis will be placed on state-of-the-art developments in synthetic and systems biology, metabolic engineering, microbiome-based technologies, artificial intelligence and modeling in bioprocess optimization, and novel strategies for sustainable and circular bioeconomy concepts.

We welcome contributions addressing cutting-edge topics such as engineered microbial cell factories, advanced biocatalysis, microbial consortia, bio-based materials, carbon-neutral production technologies, and the integration of omics-driven approaches into biotechnology. In addition, studies bridging fundamental microbial physiology with translational and industrial applications are especially encouraged.

Since the goal of this Topical Collection is to highlight pioneering and forward-looking research in microbial biotechnology, we especially encourage Editorial Board Members for the Microbial Biotechnology Section of Microorganisms to contribute papers reflecting the latest developments in their fields or to invite leading experts and colleagues to submit their research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the collection website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
