Dear Colleagues,
Aspergillus fumigatus is a ubiquitous environmental fungus and one of the most important airborne fungal pathogens of humans. It can cause a broad spectrum of diseases, ranging from allergic and chronic pulmonary conditions to life-threatening invasive aspergillosis, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Despite substantial advances in our understanding of its biology and pathogenicity, the management of A. fumigatus-associated diseases remains challenging because of the complexity of host-pathogen interactions, the limited availability of antifungal agents, and the increasing concern regarding antifungal resistance. This Special Issue aims to provide an updated overview of recent advances in A. fumigatus research. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives addressing fundamental and translational aspects of this important fungal pathogen. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, fungal physiology and metabolism, virulence determinants, host immune responses, adaptation to host-associated microenvironments, antifungal resistance, tolerance and persistence, population genomics and genomic epidemiology, environmental reservoirs and One Health surveillance, airway microbiome and polymicrobial interactions, epigenetic and post-transcriptional regulation, extracellular vesicles and cross-kingdom communication, spatial and single-cell omics, advanced infection models, diagnostic innovations, and novel therapeutic strategies. Studies that bridge basic fungal biology with clinically relevant questions are particularly encouraged.
