Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) considered endogenous nanoparticles, are rapidly emerging as an exciting field of cell biology, because of their potential use as biomarkers and therapeutic nanocarriers. Similar to the synthetic drug delivery nanoparticle systems, extracellular vesicles are capable of delivering a complex cargo of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, and are important mediators of intra and inter-cellular communications. The aim of this special issue is to provide an overall understanding of the biogenesis, the role and the applications of EVs in normal and pathological conditions and a comparison between extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles as diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Biogenesis and role of extracellular vesicles in disease.
  • Extracellular vesicles isolation, characterization, quantification and applications.
  • Extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles, for diagnostic and drug delivery.
  • Extracellular vesicles as biomarkers and therapeutic tools.
  • Extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles as immune-mediators in disease.
  • Engineered extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles in cancer and other chronic diseases.
  • Noncoding RNA, including long non-coding RNA, miRNA and circular RNA containing extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles as biomarkers and therapeutic tools.
  • Role of the stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles in cell differentiation and repair.
  • Extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles uptake mechanism.
  • Extracellular vesicles high-throughput screening data, including next-generation sequencing, proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics.
