Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The gut microbiome plays a central role in human physiology through its effects on metabolism, immune regulation, epithelial barrier integrity, and resistance to pathogens. Alterations in microbial composition and function, commonly referred to as dysbiosis, have been associated with a wide range of disorders, including inflammatory, metabolic, autoimmune, infectious, neurological, and neoplastic diseases. However, the mechanisms through which microbial communities contribute to disease initiation, progression, and treatment response remain incompletely understood.

This Special Issue, "Gut Microbiome in Disease Pathogenesis", will present current research on the molecular, cellular, and immunological mechanisms linking the intestinal microbiota to human disease. Particular attention will be given to host–microbiome interactions, mucosal immunity, microbial metabolites, intestinal barrier dysfunction, chronic inflammation, and microbiome-mediated modulation of systemic immune responses.

Relevant topics include the following:

  • Gut dysbiosis in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases;
  • Microbiome–immune system crosstalk;
  • Mucosal immunology and intestinal barrier function;
  • Microbial metabolites and immune regulation;
  • Gut microbiome involvement in metabolic, neurological, infectious, and malignant diseases;
  • Multi-omics approaches for studying host–microbiome interactions;
  • Microbiome biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response;
  • Probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, dietary interventions, and microbiota-based therapies;
  • Personalized and precision medicine strategies targeting the gut microbiome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
