Young Investigator Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Metals 2023 Young Investigator Award is Dr. João Pedro Oliveira.
Dr. João Pedro Oliveira is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Materials Science at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Caparica, Portugal. Dr. Oliveira’s research interests are in using advanced manufacturing technologies (welding and additive manufacturing) and advanced characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, and synchrotron X-ray diffraction, for example) to link the microstructural characteristics of the processed metals with their functional and thermo/mechanical behavior. Dr. Oliveira received his PhD in 2016 and has an outstanding publication record. The impact of his research group can be measured by the number and scholarly impact of the resulting publications and is reflected by a Scopus H-index of 43. He is clearly a rising star in the field of materials science and engineering. As a single applicant, Dr. Oliveira was also able to attract significant funding for research. Moreover, he is the principal investigator and coordinator of the ongoing European project on Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing that has received EUR 1.7 million in funding. This is an outstanding triumph in today’s competitive environment. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Oliveira for his outstanding achievements.
As the awardee, Dr. Oliveira will receive a bonus of CHF 2000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2023 in Metals after peer-review, and an electronic certificate.
We thank all the nominators from various fields of study for their participation and all the Award Committee Members for their evaluation of the many excellent nominations.
Editor-in-Chief,
Prof. Dr. Hugo F. Lopez and Prof. Dr. Yong Zhang
