Young Investigator Award

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Metals 2022 Young Investigator Award is Prof. Dr. Yonggang Yao.

Prof. Dr. Yonggang Yao is a Professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. Prof. Yao’s research interests are in high entropy alloys and high temperature metallurgy under extreme conditions (e.g., 3000 K, 1–10 s shock heating), thereby achieving assorted new materials and structures that are otherwise inaccessible. Prof. Yao received his PhD in 2018 and has since developed an outstanding publication record, comprising >100 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 11 international patents, with a total citation of >10,000 and a Hirsch index of 53. He is clearly a rising star in the field of innovative metallic materials and metallurgy methods based on the extreme high temperature platform. Prof. Yao is constantly involved in funding applications with two DOE-funded projects (in which he has already participated) and one industry proposal that he has been invited to make and has submitted (as the co-PI) in the USA. After joining HUST, he raised funds from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Key R&D Program of China within one year. This is an impressive achievement in today’s competitive environment. Please join us in congratulating Prof. Yao for his outstanding achievements.

As the awardee, Prof. Yao will receive a bonus of 2000 CHF, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2022 in Metals after peer review, and a certificate.

We would like to thank all the nominators from various fields of study for their participation and all the Award Committee Members for their evaluation of the excellent nominations.
