Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am honoured to be the Guest Editor of this Special Issue of Medicina, which aims to summarize current research on trauma systems.

Trauma systems began in the 1970s. Today, trauma systems are the result of the developments in trauma services and the cooperation of all healthcare providers aiming to reduce preventable deaths and decrease morbidity and injury complications.

This cooperation includes injury prevention programmes, coordination of care between prehospital and hospital contexts, rehabilitation care, and post-discharge care of trauma victims. Injury remains the leading cause of death and disability and is responsible for 9% of mortality worldwide. Current efforts to improve trauma care focus on prehospital training and triage, enhancing hospital training and procedures, and establishing in-hospital specialized trauma care teams. A trauma system provides care from prehospital stages through to rehabilitation, as well as injury prevention, education, research, and quality programmes.

In this Special Issue, we welcome papers that enhance our knowledge of trauma systems, including innovative trauma management. Original research and review articles are welcome.
