Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The field of urologic surgery is undergoing a profound transformation, propelled by innovations in technology, data science, and personalized approaches to patient care. This Special Issue, “Artificial Intelligence in Urology: A New Era of Precision and Innovation,” aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolving surgical landscape, highlighting both the breakthroughs and the emerging complexities that are shaping current and future clinical practice.
In recent years, advances such as minimally invasive procedures, image-guided techniques, surgical robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI) have significantly improved diagnostic accuracy, intraoperative precision, and postoperative outcomes. Simultaneously, the integration of personalized medicine into surgical decision-making—guided by genomic data, risk stratification models, and patient preferences—has opened new pathways toward individualized care.
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, clinical studies, and perspectives that address a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the following:
- Technological innovation in urologic surgery: robotics, augmented reality, and smart instruments;
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning in diagnostics and intraoperative support;
- Personalized treatment planning based on genetic, imaging, and functional data;
- Enhanced recovery protocols and perioperative optimization;
- Patient-reported outcomes, quality of life, and shared decision-making in urologic surgery;
- Challenges in training, ethics, and regulation in the era of digital surgery.
A particular emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary contributions that bridge urology, oncology, bioengineering, data science, and healthcare policy. Through this collection, we seek to capture the dynamic interplay between innovation and clinical applicability, while fostering a critical dialogue on how to deliver safe, effective, and truly personalized surgical care.
Authors are encouraged to reflect not only on technical advancements but also on the broader implications—educational, ethical, and systemic—of these transformations. Together, the contributions to this issue will offer valuable insights for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers seeking to navigate the next frontier in urologic surgery.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
