Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Musculoskeletal disorders represent one of the leading causes of pain, functional limitation, and disability worldwide, affecting patients across all age groups and clinical settings. Accurate diagnosis and follow-up are essential to optimize clinical decision-making, guide preventive and therapeutic strategies, and evaluate outcomes in both conservative and interventional approaches.
In this context, musculoskeletal imaging plays a fundamental role not only in diagnostic assessment but also as an integral part of therapeutic and interventional procedures. Advances in imaging techniques have substantially improved the understanding of both structural and functional alterations associated with these disorders. Among these modalities, musculoskeletal ultrasound has gained increasing relevance due to its accessibility, real-time dynamic assessment capabilities, and cost-effectiveness. When integrated with other imaging techniques, it becomes a key component of both diagnostic evaluation and image-guided therapeutic procedures.
This Special Issue aims to provide an updated overview of musculoskeletal imaging, with a particular focus on diagnostic assessment, disease progression monitoring, and clinically relevant applications. Contributions are welcomed from clinical, translational, and methodological perspectives, addressing topics such as imaging-based diagnosis, functional and dynamic assessment, image-guided interventions, disease progression control, and outcome evaluation.
We invite original research articles and narrative or systematic reviews that contribute to advancing the understanding and application of musculoskeletal imaging in clinical practice. Submissions exploring the complementary role of different imaging modalities and their impact on patient-centered care are particularly encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
