Dear Colleagues,
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is an essential clinical specialty within modern medicine, addressing traumatic, inflammatory, and neoplastic conditions of the facial skeleton, oral cavity, and head and neck region. Daily clinical practice requires the integration of accurate diagnosis, appropriate surgical timing, and individualized treatment strategies to restore function, aesthetics, and overall patient well-being.
Maxillofacial trauma represents a significant clinical burden, ranging from isolated facial fractures to complex injuries in polytrauma patients. Despite advances in imaging, fixation systems, and perioperative management, clinicians continue to face challenges related to delayed treatment, secondary deformities, infection, malocclusion, and impaired mastication or speech. Optimal management requires evidence-based decision-making and close cooperation with other medical specialties.
Similarly, head and neck and maxillofacial oncology remain a demanding field in routine clinical practice. Surgical treatment of malignant tumors must balance radical oncologic resection with functional preservation and reconstruction. Progress in microvascular reconstruction, perioperative care, and adjuvant therapies has improved survival rates; however, postoperative function, complication rates, and long-term quality of life remain key clinical concerns.
This Special Issue aims to present clinically relevant research addressing current challenges and future perspectives in oral and maxillofacial surgery, with particular emphasis on maxillofacial traumatology and head and neck oncology. We invite original clinical studies, retrospective and prospective analyses and systematic reviews that contribute to improving patient outcomes and everyday clinical decision-making.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
