Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of digital technologies is fundamentally reshaping healthcare systems worldwide. Innovations such as artificial intelligence, telemedicine, wearable devices, electronic health records, and big data analytics are transforming how care is delivered, monitored, and evaluated. These technologies have gained even greater prominence in the wake of global health challenges, including pandemics, aging populations, and the increasing burden of chronic diseases. Healthcare systems are under pressure to become more efficient, accessible, and patient-centered, and digital solutions offer powerful tools to address these demands.
At the same time, the integration of digital technology into healthcare presents complex challenges. Issues related to data privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability, ethical use of AI, and digital inequalities remain significant barriers. Furthermore, disparities in access to digital infrastructure and varying levels of digital literacy can exacerbate existing health inequities. Despite these concerns, the opportunities for innovation, improved clinical outcomes, cost reduction, and enhanced patient engagement make this a critical and timely area of research. Both academia and healthcare practitioners play a vital role in advancing knowledge and guiding the responsible implementation of these technologies.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to the impact of digital technology on healthcare systems, services, and outcomes. We consider contributions addressing the design, implementation, evaluation, and governance of digital health solutions as well as their implications for patients, providers, and policymakers. Interdisciplinary research that bridges technology, medicine and public health is particularly encouraged.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in healthcare
- Telemedicine, telehealth, and remote patient monitoring
- Digital health platforms, mobile health (mHealth), and wearable technologies
- Big data analytics and health informatics
- Electronic health records and interoperability challenges
- Patient engagement and personalized medicine through digital tools
- Implementation challenges and evaluation of digital health interventions
We welcome original research articles, reviews and perspectives that contribute to a deeper understanding of how digital technologies are transforming healthcare and how their benefits can be maximized while addressing associated risks.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
