Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Magnesium and its alloys have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their low density, high specific strength, and excellent potential for lightweight structural applications in industries such as automotives, aerospace, and biomedical engineering. However, challenges remain in optimizing their microstructure, enhancing their mechanical properties, and achieving comprehensive characterizations for both fundamental research and their practical application.

This Special Issue of Materials, titled “Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Characterization of Magnesium-Based Alloys,” aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for the dissemination of recent advances in the design, processing, and characterization of magnesium-based materials. We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Alloy design and novel magnesium-based compositions;
  • Processing techniques (casting, deformation, additive manufacturing, etc.);
  • Microstructural evolution and phase transformation;
  • Mechanical behavior under various loading and environmental conditions;
  • Corrosion and surface modification;
  • Advanced characterization methods (microscopy, spectroscopy, in situ techniques, etc.);
  • Modeling and simulation of microstructure–property relationships;
  • Applications of magnesium alloys in engineering fields.

We cordially invite researchers from academia and industry to submit their latest findings and insights to this Special Issue. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review to ensure the highest standards of scientific quality. We look forward to your valuable contributions which will advance the frontiers of magnesium alloy research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
