Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to contribute to the second volume of this Special Issue, related to structural engineering and materials. Based on our experience of the first volume, that can be accessed here https://www.mdpi.com/journal/materials/special_issues/Struct_Analysis_Mat_Finite_Elem_Modeling, we decided to run this second volume with an extended scope. Therefore, this volume is not limited to only the Finite Element Method; instead, we encourage manuscripts that focus on rapidly developing methods, such as CFD, DEM, and many others, which play a crucial role in the development of structures and materials.

In recent years, there have been rapid developments in the area of structural engineering and materials, as well as testing and simulation methods. Areas of application include the space, automotive, and sport industries, resulting in many daily use components.

Properly modeling the behavior of complex structures and materials in their macro/microstructure to reflect novel properties and mechanical behavior is a great challenge, (e.g., noise isolation, radiation protection, heat transfer, lightweight, and metamaterials), though this is necessary for the purpose of their application in structural analysis simulations of load bearing structures.

This Special Issue calls for the submission of research papers and review articles that focus on the challenge of the simulation and testing of complex, special purpose, and novel structures and materials. Research papers focusing on simulations and testing corresponding to a great variety of scientific and engineering applications, in addition to case studies, are welcome to be submitted. Manuscripts presenting experimental verification are also of great value, and presentations of highly complex numerical simulations and their proper discussion are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
