Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metabolic eye diseases encompass a broad spectrum of disorders in which metabolic dysfunctions play a critical role in ocular pathology. Recent advancements in imaging technologies, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus autofluorescence, and metabolic imaging, have revolutionized our understanding of these conditions. This Special Issue aims to explore the intricate relationship between metabolic pathways and ocular health, shedding light on how metabolic dysregulation contributes to disease onset, progression, and clinical outcomes.
We invite researchers to contribute original studies and reviews focusing on novel diagnostic approaches, imaging biomarkers, artificial intelligence-driven predictive models, as well as translational insights into metabolic eye diseases. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, diabetic retinopathy, mitochondrial optic neuropathies, metabolic-related macular degeneration, inherited metabolic disorders affecting vision, and corneal manifestations of metabolic diseases. Corneal involvement in metabolic disorders, such as cystinosis, mucopolysaccharidoses, and Schnyder corneal dystrophy, highlights the diverse ways in which metabolic dysfunctions can impact ocular structures. By integrating cutting-edge tomography techniques with clinical prediction models, this Special Issue seeks to bridge the gap between fundamental research and real-world clinical applications.
We welcome interdisciplinary perspectives from ophthalmology, neurology, endocrinology, biomedical engineering, etc., to foster a deeper understanding of these complex disorders. We look forward to your valuable contributions that will enhance both diagnostic precision and therapeutic strategies in metabolic eye diseases.
