Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) represents around 3% of all cancers, with the highest incidence occurring in Western countries. RCC displays a wide spectrum of oncological prognoses and clinical behaviours. Partial and radical ne- phrectomy are still the main surgeries used to achieve cure in localized and non-localized RCC.

Recent studies are beginning to uncover the mechanisms underlying immune escape in RCC and the role of inflammatory immune cells and cytokines in this process. These new findings have led to renewed interest in the use of immunotherapy in the treatment of this disease, including strategies to regulate inflammatory responses.

Accumulating evidence suggests that inflammatory responses in the tumour microenvironment (TME) might play a critical role in bladder tumorigenesis, proliferation, progression, and metastasis. Inflammation can lead to leukocytosis, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Some possible markers and related genes have been identified for RCC, such as MTOR (with glycocholic acid), PIK3CA (with 11-methoxycurvularin, glycocholic acid, and isoquercitrin), IL6 (with isoquercetin), and IGF1R (with 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo 4,5-b pyridine).

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), fibrinogen, and albumin levels are inflammatory markers that have been used for decades and investigated in many different cancers. However, their use in diagnosis and prognosis in RCC is not yet clearly understood.
This Special Issue will focus on personalized diagnosis and therapy in the field of renal cell carcinoma, and we invite researchers all over the world to submit manuscripts on this topic.
