State of the Art on PET/CT and PET/MRI in Oncology

Dear Colleagues,

The advancing development of personalized therapeutic concepts in the oncological context benefits from image-based precision medicine, where PET/CT and PET/MRI have proven to be valuable techniques for the early detection and precise localization of tumor lesions, accurate determination of tumor stage, and monitoring treatment response. The complexity of hybrid imaging necessitates a detailed investigation of its information content, taking into account technical limitations and the clinical-prognostic relevance in diagnostic routine for each specific question and entity. The often multifaceted clinical questions, large volume of image data, complex data structure, and required technical expertise contribute to the complexity of hybrid imaging. With the ongoing development of individualized molecular therapy concepts, hybrid imaging has been gaining increasing diagnostic and clinical importance, as it provides the highest possible imaging information content compared to other radiological and nuclear medicine modalities. In addition, the exploration of various radiopharmaceutical agents has opened up novel possibilities for the in vivo molecular characterization of cancer.

This Special Issue, entitled "State of the Art on PET/CT and PET/MRI in Oncology", aims to highlight the role of hybrid imaging in cancer management, such as individualized diagnosis and therapeutic biomarker drug assessment, to provide clinicians with information to assist in the development of optimal treatment options for cancer. Therefore, we encourage researchers (clinicians and scientists) in the field to submit original articles and reviews to this Special Issue of the Journal of Personalized Medicine.
