Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are inviting you to submit your research to this Special Issue of the Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing published by MDPI titled “Advances in Catalysis and Surface Science: Material Manufacturing, Processing, and Performance Enhancement”.
Over the past decades, the study of catalysis has been a highly valued field among researchers striving to understand reaction mechanisms and develop novel chemistries crucial for industrial production, functional material innovation, and energy revolution. Advancements in catalytic processes focus on simplifying reaction steps and exploring catalysts from readily available materials, improving efficiency and reducing costs for both economic and environmental benefits. Traditional research methods, which often rely on trial and error, face significant challenges in deciphering the complex catalytic systems resulting from the intricate dynamics of high-dimensional and multi-degree-of-freedom environments.
The emergence of surface science as a powerful research tool has proven instrumental in addressing these challenges. By examining chemical and physical interactions at interfaces—focusing on surface structure, catalytic processes, thermodynamics, and functionality—surface science serves as an efficient mediator to deepen the understanding of structure–performance relationships, enabling more effective catalyst design. As a result, surface science has transformed catalysis research from an empirical art into a sophisticated high-tech discipline.
This Special Issue aims to highlight advances in catalysis and surface science, addressing key challenges and future directions. Additionally, it aims to promote discussion on cutting-edge strategies to unravel the complexities of catalytic systems, from atomic-scale mechanisms to industrial applications.
This Special Issue covers cutting-edge chemical fields in but not limited to the following topics:
- Advanced Catalytic Materials

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
