Dear Colleagues,
The continuous advancement of bioactive and functional biomaterials is reshaping current strategies for targeted cancer diagnostics and precision theranostics. Modern biomaterials are no longer passive carriers, but actively engineered platforms capable of specific molecular recognition, signal amplification, and controlled therapeutic response. In this context, surface functionalization and the integration of targeting ligands play a pivotal role in enhancing diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and clinical relevance.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent progress in the design and application of functionalizable biomaterials for early cancer detection, targeted diagnostics, and precision theranostic approaches. Particular emphasis will be placed on biomaterial platforms engineered with molecular recognition elements—such as aptamers, peptides, and antibodies—that enable selective targeting of cancer-associated biomarkers and support early-stage diagnosis, disease monitoring, and therapeutic guidance.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, bioactive nanomaterials, hybrid and composite systems, smart and stimuli-responsive biomaterials, and surface-engineered platforms for cancer diagnostics and therapy.
By integrating materials science, molecular targeting, and oncology, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of emerging bioactive and functional biomaterials with significant potential in early cancer diagnosis and precision theranostics.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
