Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Maternal–fetal medicine is rapidly evolving and plays a critical role in improving outcomes for mothers and their babies worldwide. Despite remarkable progress in prenatal care and obstetric management, complications such as hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, fetal growth restriction, preterm birth and placental insufficiency remain major global health challenges. At the same time, demographic trends, including delayed maternal age and rising prevalence of chronic maternal conditions, highlight the urgent need for innovative strategies to optimize maternal and fetal health.

Recent scientific and technological advances are reshaping the field. High-resolution fetal imaging, molecular diagnostics, genomics, advanced biomarkers, artificial intelligence and fetal therapy and surgery are enabling earlier detection, more precise monitoring and personalized interventions. Effectively addressing these complex challenges increasingly requires multidisciplinary collaboration across obstetrics, neonatology, fetal and neonatal surgery, genetics and data-driven clinical decision-making. The intersection of rapid technological progress and pressing clinical needs makes research in maternal–fetal medicine both timely and highly impactful for scientific discovery and clinical practice.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances in maternal–fetal medicine. We welcome contributions exploring innovative diagnostic tools, novel therapeutic strategies, fetal therapy and surgery, precision medicine approaches and emerging technologies that can improve maternal and fetal outcomes.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced prenatal diagnosis and fetal imaging
  • Fetal therapy and intrauterine surgery
  • Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy
  • Gestational diabetes and metabolic complications
  • Fetal growth restriction and preterm birth
  • Placental disorders and maternal comorbidities
  • Perinatal transition
  • Biomarkers, genomics and personalized medicine in obstetrics
  • Artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches in maternal–fetal care

We encourage submissions from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams worldwide that advance the understanding and management of complex maternal–fetal conditions and translate scientific discoveries into improved clinical practice.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
