Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advances in prenatal diagnosis, surgery, and interventional cardiology have transformed congenital heart disease (CHD) from a fatal condition of infancy into a chronic cardiovascular disease spanning the entire lifespan. Nowadays, most babies born with CHD survive into adulthood, creating a rapidly growing and heterogeneous population with complex clinical needs. Lifelong care is essential, as residual lesions, late complications, acquired cardiovascular risk factors, and age-related comorbidities frequently emerge long after initial repair. Optimal management requires structured transition from pediatric to adult services, long-term surveillance in specialized centers, and multidisciplinary collaboration involving cardiology, imaging, obstetrics, electrophysiology, and preventive medicine. This Special Issue will address contemporary challenges in lifelong CHD care, from early risk stratification and advanced imaging to pregnancy, heart failure, arrhythmias, and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. By integrating pediatric and adult perspectives, this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive, patient-centered framework for improving long-term outcomes in individuals living with congenital heart disease.
