Currently, we are able to perform various endoscopic interventions to treat and diagnose pancreatobiliary diseases. However, there are still many unmet needs in clinical practice; various trials have attempted to resolve these unmet needs in pancreatobiliary endoscopy. The utilization of new treatments and evaluation of new devices, modalities and strategies are crucial to developing better patient care in this field. ERCP-related procedures are considered to be standard but are still difficult to perform and require extensive training and lengthy procedures. In addition, post-ERCP pancreatitis is still an unresolved, lethal complication. More efficient and safer procedures are thus urgently needed. Interventional EUS is a relatively new modality which steadily progressing. To develop this type of procedure, we should discover new results, develop new devices, and challenge new indications. Developing equipment is also important, as is initial evaluation, including comparison with other devices, and making said devices widely available. Diagnositc endoscopy in both ERCP and EUS is also crucial. Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been remarkable, and we therefore look forward to receiving many submissions regarding AI. Regardless, impressive, brand new, and investigatory articles are expected.
In this Special Issue, we invite papers on pancreatobiliary endoscopic intervention, with a particular focus on the issues outlined above.
