Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a widely performed procedure aimed at alleviating pain and improving function in patients with end-stage arthritis. Despite its success, a subset of patients report dissatisfaction, often due to postoperative pain, stiffness, or knee laxity. Recent research has focused on evaluating various parameters to optimize outcomes, including alignment, implant design, and surgical techniques.
This special issue reviews current evidence regarding advancements in TKA, such as the use of robotic-assisted surgery and personalized implants, with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches. It discusses the importance of individualized treatment strategies tailored to each patient’s anatomy and biomechanics, supported by recent clinical studies.
Alignment remains a key factor influencing postoperative outcomes. While coronal alignment has been thoroughly studied, emerging evidence highlights the significance of alignment in axial and sagittal planes for restoring native knee kinematics. The issue discusses scientific findings on how different alignment strategies impact functional results and implant longevity.
Furthermore, material innovations and implant design improvements aim to extend range of motion and reduce wear. Nonetheless, the clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness of these advancements require further rigorous investigation.
The goal of this Special Issue is to present a balanced, evidence-driven overview of the current state of TKA and identify avenues for future research based on robust scientific data.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
