Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains one of the most challenging procedures in interventional cardiology. While CTOs, complete blockages of coronary arteries for at least three months, account for a significant portion of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), they were historically considered complex and less successful. The development of innovative techniques, tools, and strategies over the past decade has dramatically improved the outcomes of CTO PCI, shifting it from a niche procedure to a routine practice in many interventional cardiology centers worldwide.

With the advancements in guidewire technology, imaging modalities, and the integration of new techniques like retrograde PCI, ADR, and microcatheters, CTO PCI has entered a new era of precision and success. As more patients with CTOs are treated, the demand for effective, safer, and more efficient interventions continues to grow. This Special Issue will delve into the latest innovations in the field, providing a comprehensive overview of new techniques, technologies, and CTO PCI evolution from the perspective of leading experts in the field.
