Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

High-risk pregnancy remains a leading contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite substantial progress in prenatal diagnosis, imaging, biomarker development, and preventive interventions, many conditions—such as preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, placental insufficiency, preterm birth, and complex maternal comorbidities—continue to challenge clinicians and healthcare systems. Recent scientific and technological advances offer new opportunities to refine risk stratification, optimize surveillance, personalize therapeutic strategies, and improve short- and long-term outcomes for mothers and infants.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to highlight cutting-edge evidence, clinical innovation, and translational research in the management of high-risk pregnancies.

This Special Issue aims to showcase contemporary advances and emerging strategies in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of high-risk pregnancy, aligning with the Journal of Clinical Medicine scope in maternal–fetal medicine, obstetrics, clinical imaging, translational science, and precision medicine. We seek high-quality research that enhances clinical decision-making and supports the development of evidence-based guidelines for high-risk obstetric care.

By gathering original research, state-of-the-art reviews, and multidimensional clinical studies, this issue will provide a comprehensive overview of current challenges and future directions in the field.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and review papers are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in screening and prediction of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and preterm birth;
  • Innovations in maternal–fetal imaging, including ultrasound and MRI;
  • Biomarkers and omics approaches in high-risk pregnancy;
  • Management of medical complications (diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disease, cardiac disease, obesity);
  • Placental disorders, including placenta accreta spectrum and placental insufficiency;
  • Evidence-based interventions for prevention (e.g., aspirin prophylaxis, lifestyle, and nutritional strategies);
  • Optimization of labor and delivery in high-risk pregnancies;
  • Artificial intelligence and decision-support tools in maternal–fetal medicine;
  • Global health perspectives and implementation science in high-risk obstetrics;
  • Innovations in managing multiple pregnancies.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
