Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Pediatric craniofacial surgery represents one of the most complex and challenging fields in modern surgical practice, requiring sophisticated multidisciplinary collaboration among pediatric neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, plastic surgeons, and specialized nursing teams. The perioperative management of infants and children undergoing craniofacial reconstructive procedures demands precise attention to hemodynamic stability, blood loss management, tissue oxygenation monitoring, and optimal timing of therapeutic interventions.
Recent advances in monitoring technologies, particularly near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and other non-invasive techniques, have opened new perspectives for real-time assessment of tissue perfusion and oxygenation during complex surgical procedures. These innovations, combined with refined blood management strategies, enhanced surgical techniques, and evidence-based transfusion protocols, are progressively improving perioperative outcomes while reducing complications and optimizing resource utilization.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive update on the current state of clinical practice in pediatric craniofacial surgery, with particular emphasis on the following:
- Perioperative hemodynamic monitoring and blood management strategies;
- Advanced monitoring technologies (NIRS, cerebral oximetry, and hemodynamic assessment);
- Blood transfusion protocols and triggers in pediatric populations;
- Anesthetic management and pain control in craniofacial procedures;
- Surgical techniques in craniosynostosis correction and craniofacial reconstruction;
- Postoperative intensive care management and complication prevention;
- Long-term neurodevelopmental and functional outcomes.
We encourage submissions of original research articles and reviews from clinicians and researchers in the fields of pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric intensive care, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and related specialties. This Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for practitioners seeking to implement evidence-based approaches and innovative strategies in the complex perioperative management of pediatric craniofacial surgery patients.
We look forward to receiving your high-quality submissions that will contribute to advancing clinical knowledge and improving outcomes for children undergoing craniofacial surgical procedures.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
