Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Knee arthroplasty has undergone remarkable evolution over the past decades, becoming one of the most successful procedures in modern orthopedics. Advances in implant design, biomaterials, surgical techniques, perioperative management, and digital technologies have significantly improved functional outcomes and patient satisfaction. At the same time, new challenges are emerging—ranging from the management of younger, more active patients to the prevention of complications, personalization of care, and long-term survivorship of implants.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to provide a comprehensive and updated overview of current innovations and future directions in knee arthroplasty.
This Special Issue aligns closely with the journal’s scope by focusing on clinical and technological advancements that may improve patient outcomes, optimize surgical practice, and enhance understanding of implant performance. Our objective is to gather high-quality contributions that reflect the multidisciplinary nature of knee arthroplasty and encourage discussion on emerging trends and unmet needs in the field.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Innovations in implant design and biomaterials;
- Robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty;
- Patient-specific instrumentation;
- Alignment strategies;
- Enhanced recovery protocols and perioperative optimization;
- Management of complications and revision knee arthroplasty;
- Long-term clinical outcomes and survivorship analyses;
- Biomechanics and kinematic assessment of knee implants, including gait analysis;
- Digital health, AI, and data-driven approaches in arthroplasty;
- Treatment strategies for younger and high-demand patients.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
