Journal of Clinical Medicine 2024 Young Investigator Award—Winner Announced

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the JCM 2024 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Gabriela Lima de Melo Ghisi.

Dr. Gabriela Lima de Melo Ghisi is a scientist at the University Health Network (UHN) in Canada, with a research focus on implementation of patient education interventions across different chronic disease settings and global access to chronic disease management. She holds adjunct professor positions at the University of Toronto and York University (Canada), UFMG (Brazil), and the University of Sydney (Australia). Dr. Ghisi has published over 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Ranked among the top three heart rehabilitation researchers globally (SciVal/Scopus 2019-2025), she also serves on the editorial boards of four leading medical journals.

Dr. Ghisi has led global initiatives to enhance cardiac health education, including developing and evaluating evidence-based patient education curricula in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs across 10 countries. She co-developed the first women-focused CR clinical practice guidelines and introduced tailored educational curricula in Canada.

Since 2016, Dr. Ghisi has held leadership roles with the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (ICCPR), part of the World Heart Federation (WHF), where she currently serves as Chair. Dr. Ghisi’s proven ability to translate research into practical tools and best practices has shaped CR delivery worldwide, positioning her as a global leader in the field and a key contributor to the success of this project.

Upon receiving this honour, Dr. Ghisi wanted to convey the following sentiments: “As someone who has dedicated much of my career to advancing cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation, I believe that open access is essential for scientific progress. Coming from a middle-income country, I have seen firsthand how important it is to ensure that knowledge is accessible to all, regardless of geographic or financial constraints. Open access platforms like MDPI play a pivotal role in democratizing science, allowing researchers, clinicians, and patients alike to benefit from the latest evidence and innovations.

Being recognized by such a prestigious journal not only motivates me to continue my work, but it also reinforces the importance of collaborative, accessible science in improving global healthcare. I look forward to contributing to the ongoing dialogue and advancing cardiovascular care for patients worldwide”.

This is an outstanding achievement in today’s competitive academic environment. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Ghisi on her outstanding achievements.

As the awardee, Dr. Gabriela Lima de Melo Ghisi will receive the following honorarium:

  • CHF 2000;
