Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Acridids—locusts and grasshoppers—are among the most devastating economic pests of agriculture, capable of damaging crops and rangelands across continents. Their monitoring and control present substantial challenges because of their vast distribution areas, high migratory capacities and transboundary nature. Recent decades witnessed significant advances in acridid monitoring and early warning, including the application of geospatial tools for field surveys, use of geographic information systems as well as satellite information and ecological modeling for data analyses and population dynamics forecasting. Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are being introduced in locust and grasshopper surveys and identification. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones) are becoming an important tool for acridid pest surveillance and control. Low-toxic control options, such as biopesticides, are gaining recognition as a means for efficient and sustainable acridid management. The current Special Issue aims at addressing innovative approaches and technologies for acridid pest surveillance and control worldwide.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Insects is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
