Dear Colleagues,
Mitochondria play a pivotal role in various genetic diseases and human cancers. The overwhelming orchestration and function of around 1500 proteins in the mitochondria, of which only 13 are encoded by the mitochondria represent a unique assembly driving the OXPHOS system and other cellular functions. Imbalance in this assembly and functional coordination leads to various diseases. In this special issue, we welcome articles shedding light on the role of mitochondria in various diseases including cancer and the strategies for prevention, early detection, monitoring and treating these diseases.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
