Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advancements in understanding the molecular processes of ageing suggest an interplay between ageing, regeneration, and immunology, offering avenues for combating age-related diseases and promoting healthy ageing. The immune system plays a pivotal role in the process of ageing, with chronic inflammation emerging as a key contributor to age-related pathologies. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying immunosenescence, the age-related decline in immune function, has become crucial in the development of interventions to promote healthy ageing.

Age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disorders, and metabolic diseases, are often characterized by dysregulated inflammation and impaired regenerative processes. Molecular studies have determined signalling pathways and cellular mechanisms involved in ageing, offering targets for therapeutic interventions. Bio-active compounds, derived from natural sources or synthesized, and physical activity have shown potential in modulating these pathways, providing avenues for developing anti-ageing interventions.

Regenerative medicine holds promise for addressing age-related tissue degeneration and promoting longevity. Molecular approaches aim to elucidate the mechanisms driving tissue regeneration, including stem cell biology, tissue engineering, and gene therapy. By harnessing the body’s innate regenerative capacity, innovative therapies for age-related conditions can be designed.

In this Special Issue, molecular advances in ageing and regeneration offer a multifaceted approach to combating age-related diseases and promoting healthy ageing. By determining the complex interplay between immunology, inflammation, and the molecular mechanisms of ageing, novel therapeutic strategies can be aimed at extending health span and enhancing quality of life in the ageing population.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
