Dear Colleagues,
Despite the breathtaking pace of advancements in science, technology, health, and medicine today, there is still a need for new drugs and new therapeutic methods, especially in the fields of health and medicine. Because as long as humankind has existed, it has lived alongside bacteria and other microbes, and it must continue to do so. Although the discovery of antibiotics gave humanity an advantage in the fight against disease-causing bacteria, unfortunately, many bacteria that have developed resistance to antibiotics today weaken humankind's ability to combat disease and infection. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), metal nanoparticles offer significant advantages against pathogens on a priority list, including bacteria, due to their reduced size and greater selectivity against bacteria. Indeed, metal nanoparticles exhibit non-specific bacterial toxicity mechanisms and do not bind to a specific receptor in bacterial cells. This makes it more difficult for bacteria to develop resistance and, in addition, broadens the spectrum of antibacterial activity. In conclusion, previous studies have shown that metal nanoparticles have promising antibacterial effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In light of all this information, we hope to support antibacterial research in the fields of chemistry, nanotechnology, medicine, and healthcare. The aim of this Special Issue is to investigate recent research on the synthesis, characterization and applications of new metal nanoparticles. Reviews, short communications and full articles are accepted for publication in this Special Issue.
