Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrochemical performance is governed by molecular- and atomic-scale processes occurring at electrode–electrolyte interfaces, including adsorption, charge transfer, ion transport, reaction-intermediate formation, nucleation, and interfacial degradation. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for the rational design of advanced materials for energy conversion and storage, electrocatalysis, corrosion protection, electrodeposition, sensing, and environmental applications. This Special Issue, “Recent Advances in Electrochemical Properties," welcomes high-quality research and review articles that provide molecular-level insights into electrochemical phenomena and clarify the relationships among molecular structure, surface chemistry, interfacial interactions, and electrochemical performance.

Topics of interest include molecular and interfacial electrocatalysis, particularly hydrogen evolution, oxygen evolution, oxygen reduction, and related electrochemical reactions; adsorption and desorption of molecules, ions, and reaction intermediates; charge-transfer mechanisms and reaction kinetics; molecularly controlled electrodeposition and thin-film growth; corrosion, passivation, and corrosion inhibition; and interfacial processes in batteries and supercapacitors, including ion solvation, metal deposition, dendrite formation, parasitic reactions, and protective electrode-electrolyte interphases. The Special Issue also covers molecular recognition and electrochemical sensing, single-molecule and ultrasensitive detection, redox-active polymers, functional biopolymers, bio-based electroactive materials, nanostructured electrodes, and molecularly engineered interfaces for environmental electrochemistry. Studies combining experimental electrochemistry with in situ or operando characterization, spectroscopy, microscopy, density functional theory, molecular dynamics, multiscale modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and explainable AI are particularly encouraged. By integrating experimental, theoretical, and data-driven approaches, this special issue aims to advance the understanding and predictive design of electrochemical materials and interfaces.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
