Advances in Amyloids: From Structure to Tailored Function

Dear Colleagues,

Amyloid structure formation has been a hot topic for decades due its involvement in pathological conditions, many of which remain incurable. More recently, amyloid structures have been studied for their versatile biological functions, ranging from bioadhesion to virulence factors, as well as for their potential technological applications. Evidence is also emerging for a possible role of amyloids in transgenerational inheritance.

Yet, a deep understanding of the links between protein sequence, aggregation pathways, amyloid structure, and biological effects remains rare and incomplete. Factors such as structure polymorphism, selective seeding effects, liquid–liquid phase separation, and the existence of reversible amyloid structures add to the complexity of this research field.

This Special Issue invites the latest research on amyloids, with a particular focus on molecular aspects. Studies combining wet-lab approaches and computational simulations are especially encouraged, as are contributions that further enrich this field.
