Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Endometrial cancer is the most prevalent gynecologic malignancy in Western countries, and the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. In recent years, the incidence and mortality rates of this cancer have increased. This may be related to the increase of the risk factors, known and unknown, and to inadequate diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment. In fact, the risk stratification is still based on a poorly reproducible histologic examination that leads to an inaccurate assessment of the risk of disease recurrence and death, with over-treatment and under-treatment of thousands of patients. Moreover, this risk assessment has lumped together different prognostic groups of endometrial cancer within trials, with misleading results. In 2013, the Cancer Genome Atlas Research Network (TCGA) identified four novel prognostic groups of endometrial cancer, laying the foundation for tailored risk stratification and treatment. A new era of endometrial cancer medicine and research has begun, and there is a great necessity that we join our efforts against a common foe.

This Special Issue seeks research on endometrial cancer in the light of these new findings and the need for a revolution to reverse the negative epidemiological trend.
