Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is motivated by the growing need for an understanding of the market dynamics driving current transformations, future trends and perspectives. As traditional fossil fuel-based systems are increasingly being complemented—or even replaced—by renewable energy sources, the energy sector faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities. This Special Issue aims to bring together diverse perspectives on the assessment of energy and electricity markets, highlighting the interactions between technological advancements, regulatory and legal reforms, and market restructuring. The main topics to be covered are the latest trends in energy markets, including the integration of renewable energy sources, the development of smart grids, the usage of big data analytics and the implementation of digital technologies that facilitate real-time data analytics and automation. Other areas covered include market deregulation, policy frameworks, energy storage solutions, demand-response strategies, and the economic impacts of geopolitical uncertainties. The issue seeks submissions that contribute rigorous analytical insights, innovative methodologies and empirical research addressing these emerging trends. Submissions fitting the scope include original research articles that explore both theoretical and practical aspects of energy market transformations. The Special Issue welcomes multidisciplinary contributions that offer forward-looking perspectives and propose actionable recommendations for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers navigating the evolving energy landscape.
