Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The impact of power quality (PQ) issues has become a central focus in modern power systems. The massive integration of distributed generation (DG)—dominated by inverter-based resources (IBRs)—alongside heterogeneous and non-linear loads poses unprecedented challenges. These dynamics lead to complex harmonic interactions, voltage fluctuations, stability issues, and unexpected degradation of power system performance.
In this evolving scenario, traditional mitigation strategies are often insufficient. Advanced techniques and innovative compensation solutions are strictly required to ensure network resilience, compliance, and optimal operation. Progress in modeling, real-time measuring, signal processing, and control technologies is driving breakthroughs in how power quality is analyzed, managed, and enhanced.
This Special Issue aims to gather the most recent advancements and state-of-the-art technologies dedicated to the analysis, mitigation, and active control of power quality. We particularly encourage contributions proposing innovative compensation technologies and advanced control strategies designed to enhance power quality in modern distribution and transmission grids characterized by a high penetration of heterogeneous inverter-based systems and non-linear loads.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Innovative compensation and mitigation technologies (e.g., active power filters, hybrid compensators, advanced STATCOMs, grid-forming and grid-following inverter controls);
- Power quality in grids with high penetration of inverter-based distributed generation;
- Harmonic generation, propagation, time-varying harmonics, and interharmonics;
- High-frequency distortion (9–150 kHz/supersonic harmonics);
- Power quality analytics, AI, machine learning, and forecasting techniques;
- Power quality state estimation, monitoring methodologies, and advanced indices;
- Distribution system planning, smart grid technologies, and PQ management;
- Impact of power quality on equipment immunity, system reliability, and economic aspects;
- Voltage fluctuations, light flicker, and lightning-induced PQ issues;
- Power quality standards, regulations, and compliance in modernized grids.
We look forward to receiving your contributions to advance research in this critical field.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
