Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, the global community has moved beyond merely acknowledging climate change as a critical challenge. Governments, industries, researchers, and communities are increasingly being called upon to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and low-carbon energy systems. This growing urgency highlights the need for a comprehensive resource that showcases the full potential of clean energy technologies and their applications across diverse sectors.
Although numerous publications address various aspects of clean energy, sustainability, and renewable energy technologies, the available knowledge remains fragmented across different disciplines and sources. A unified platform is therefore needed to bring together established renewable energy technologies alongside emerging innovations, while integrating the latest scientific advances from this broad interdisciplinary field.
The transition to clean energy has never been more urgent. Fortunately, significant advances in research and technology have produced a wide range of sustainable energy solutions capable of reducing dependence on finite fossil fuel resources. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of clean energy technologies, including wind, solar, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, and other renewable energy systems. Beyond the fundamental principles of these technologies, the issue will explore their practical applications, technological developments, environmental impacts, economic feasibility, and policy implications.
This SI is in cooperation with the 14th International Conference on Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (ICSGCE 2026), which will be held during 16–18 October 2026 in Sydney, Australia. This SI welcomes submissions from participants of the conference.
We also welcome original research and review papers that are not from the conference but that cover the following topics, though not limited to following:
- Renewable energy generation, hydrogen energy, distributed power systems, and electrification of remote and island communities;
- Hybrid renewable energy systems, bio-hybrid materials, phase change materials (PCMs), and integrated energy storage technologies;
- Clean energy applications in heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and thermal management;
- Smart grids, energy management systems, microgrids, and digital technologies for clean energy integration;
- Emerging clean energy technologies, innovative applications, and interdisciplinary research that support sustainable energy development;
- Clean energy for industrial applications, including heat pipes, thermal performance enhancement, waste heat recovery, energy efficiency, and pollution reduction;
- Clean energy and waste management, including municipal solid waste (MSW), plastic waste, agricultural waste, biomass, and green waste valorization;
- Biodigesters and bioenergy systems utilizing food waste, organic waste, and other biodegradable materials;
- Thermochemical conversion technologies, including pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal processing, and related processes.
Original research articles, review papers, case studies, and innovative technological developments related to clean energy applications and utilization are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
