Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Driven by the critical need for higher energy efficiency, reduced operational costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, there has been a growing emphasis on advanced modelling for thermal performance enhancement in industrial energy systems. Consequently, this Special Issue aims to explore various processes for generating heat and electricity using modern methods across both conventional and renewable energy sources.

Topics of interest include the following:

  • modelling of thermal and electrical energy storage systems supplying buildings with heat and electricity using renewable energy sources;
  • economic analysis and comparison of various methods of energy generation: coal-, fuel oil- and gas-fired thermal power stations, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydroelectric power stations, solar collectors, photovoltaic cells and geothermal power stations;
  • analytical and numerical modelling of power plant components under steady-state and transient conditions;
  • optimisation of processes, plant design and operation in thermal power stations and combined heat and power plants: conventional power stations, combined cycle gas and steam power stations, internal combustion engine power stations and nuclear power stations;
  • mathematical modelling of thermal and fluid flow machinery;
  • identification of thermal processes (determination of heat transfer correlations in heat exchangers based on flow and heat measurements);
  • inverse heat transfer issues and their application to monitoring thermal and pressure stresses for the residual life assessment in power machinery and equipment;
  • improving the accuracy of measurements of the unsteady temperature of a fluid using numerical models of thermometers;
  • CFD modelling of combustion processes and flow-heat transfer processes in steam generators, steam turbines and auxiliary plant equipment at power stations;
  • heating, ventilation and air conditioning;
  • storage of thermal and electrical energy;
  • storage of energy in the form of compressed air, natural gas and hydrogen in underground caverns;
  • the use of artificial intelligence in a heat exchanger;
  • modelling methods of enhancing heat transfer in thermal engineering.

Although this Special Issue accepts interdisciplinary research, the core focus of every submitted manuscript must remain within the field of energy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
