Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The global energy strategy (ES2050) targets the boosting of electricity production to meet the elevated power demand and the achievement of decarbonization for a sustainable future. Hybrid microgrids integrating renewable energy sources with conventional generation and energy storage systems, represent a critical component in the evolution of modern power systems. Their deployment is particularly significant in enhancing energy access, improving reliability and supporting decarbonization objectives. However, the key challenges remain, particularly in ensuring scalability, interoperability, cybersecurity and economic viability. Addressing these issues require a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach that combines advanced control mechanism, digital intelligence and practical engineering considerations.
This Special Issue aims to explore advanced strategies and technologies for the effective control and coordination of distributed generators, energy storage systems and grid interactions with diverse loads within hybrid microgrids, ensuring reliable, efficient and sustainable operation.
The Special Issue will cover, but is not limited to, the following:
- Hybrid microgrid monitoring, control and protection
- Energy management strategies in renewable integrated microgrid
- Grid-integrated renewable energy systems
- Energy storage system management and control
- Load forecasting and demand-side management
- Application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in hybrid AC/DC microgrid
- Power quality, voltage, frequency regulation and stability analysis of grid-integrated microgrid
- Cybersecurity and interoperability considerations in resilient microgrid control
- Economic dispatch and cost optimization

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
