Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Digital networks are now embedded in nearly every area of modern life, whether it's making a quick transaction on your phone or managing an entire automated supply chain. These large, ever-growing networks produce huge volumes of data, forming the foundation for constant connectivity and smart technology worldwide.

However, as these networks have expanded and become more diverse and heterogeneous, they have faced increasing threats. Cyberattacks, data breaches, insider misuse, and systemic vulnerabilities have progressively diminished trust in these networks and undermined confidence in the systems that support them. Traditional security solutions struggle to keep pace with adversaries who exploit distributed infrastructures and opaque trust relationships.

Blockchain technology has introduced groundbreaking innovations aimed at addressing security and trust issues in digital networks. By offering decentralization, immutability, and cryptographic assurance, blockchain provides a foundation for rethinking how security and trust can be established and maintained in digital networks, while allowing every participant to verify the corresponding system independently. These features make blockchain an attractive security and/or trust solution for applications such as identity management, authentication, intrusion detection, and resilient data transmission.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Novel consensus algorithms optimized for system security and efficiency;
  • Blockchain-enabled identity and access management;
  • Privacy-preserving techniques in distributed ledger technology;
  • Trust frameworks for IoT and edge computing over 5G/6G networks;
  • Smart contract security and formal verification;
  • Regulatory and ethical design and implementation of blockchain-based trust systems;
  • Integration of Blockchain with AI-driven security mechanisms;
  • Quantum-resistant cryptographic approaches for next-generation digital networks;
  • Feasibility and sustainability of blockchain-based security.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
