Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Inclusive education aims to ensure that every learner, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to succeed and, as educational environments become increasingly diverse, the role of emerging technologies in supporting inclusive practices has never been more critical. This Special Issue will focus on students with special educational needs, including developmental, perceptual, and cognitive variations. While we acknowledge the wider aspects of inclusion—such as culture, language, race, and gender— our primary aim is to explore how technological innovations can eliminate learning barriers and promote equitable participation for these students.
We invite researchers, educators, and developers to submit original research articles, case studies, systematic reviews, or theoretical papers that investigate how educational technologies are designed, implemented, and evaluated to support inclusive education.
We welcome interdisciplinary contributions from education, psychology, computer science, rehabilitation sciences, and design, particularly those with evidence-based insights and real-world application.
Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Tools that support learners with special educational needs, such as screen readers and speech-to-text applications;
- Gamified learning and serious games designed to build engagement and support skill development;
- Social robots and emotionally responsive technologies that assist with behavioral and emotional needs;
- AI-powered adaptive learning systems that adjust content based on student progress;
- Personalized learning experiences enabled by AI;
- Wearable devices and sensors to empower students with physical, sensory, or neurodiverse needs;
- Practical applications of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework using digital technologies;
- Inclusive technology use training and professional development for educators;
- Tools that are culturally and linguistically responsive to diverse learners;
- Ethical issues and digital equity in the design and use of inclusive technologies.
