Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Quantum engineering with quantum machine learning offers transformative potential for drones and aerial vehicles but requires innovative approaches that differ from classical techniques. Traditional strategies for internet, privacy, and security are ineffective in quantum environments, where entanglement and decoherence play central roles. These unique challenges necessitate a paradigm shift when it comes to designing quantum protocols and systems for aerial applications.
The integration of quantum technologies into drones and aerial vehicles is poised to revolutionize this field, offering unprecedented capabilities in communication, navigation, and system resilience. With rapid advancements in both quantum mechanics and drone technology, this call addresses a crucial intersection of two cutting-edge fields. The development of quantum-enhanced aerial systems promises to significantly enhance the performance, security, and efficiency of drones, opening up new avenues for commercial, scientific, and defense applications.
By fostering innovative research and collaboration, we aim to catalyze advancements that will set new standards for aerial technology. Our collective contributions can help shape the future of drones and aerial vehicles, making this call a timely and powerful opportunity for researchers and practitioners in the field.
This Collection Series seeks groundbreaking research on the design, implementation, and application of quantum engineering solutions for internet, privacy, and security in drones and aerial vehicles. We invite high-quality submissions in the following areas:
- quantum internet communication protocols for aerial networks;
- quantum machine learning for drones;
- experimental results, prototypes, demonstrations, and testbeds for aerial vehicles;
- quantum theory for aerial communication and navigation;
- quantum system architectures for drones;
- quantum repeaters and routing for aerial applications;
- design principles for quantum-enhanced aerial networks;
- intelligent methods for generating and distributing quantum entanglement in flight;
- exploration and exploitation of quantum error techniques for privacy and security in drones;
- advanced transduction techniques for aerial quantum systems;
- quantum entanglement in drones.
We invite you to contribute your original research articles to advance the field of quantum engineering in order to improve the connectivity, privacy, and security of drones.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Drones is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
