Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to a Special Issue entitled ‘Clinical Advances in Diagnosis and Prognosis of Urological Diseases.’ The diagnostic and prognostic landscape in urology is evolving at an unprecedented pace. The integration of multi-parametric MRI for prostate cancer, the discovery of novel urinary biomarkers for bladder cancer surveillance, and the application of AI in imaging and pathology are fundamentally changing clinical paradigms. Simultaneously, the rise in liquid biopsies and genomic classifiers is paving the way for a more nuanced understanding of disease aggressiveness and therapeutic response. These advancements are critically important as they directly impact risk stratification, treatment selection, and ultimately, patient survival and quality of life. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for disseminating the most significant recent breakthroughs in this vital area of research.

This Special Issue aims to gather high-quality original research and comprehensive review articles that highlight recent innovations and validate their clinical utility in the diagnosis and prognosis of urological diseases. By focusing on translational and clinical research, this Issue will directly support the journal's scope of publishing impactful studies that bridge the gap between laboratory discovery and patient care. We seek contributions that not only demonstrate improved accuracy but also address practical implementation and the potential to personalize treatment strategies for urological patients, thereby aligning perfectly with the journal's commitment to advancing clinical science and improving healthcare outcomes.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Novel Biomarkers: Validation of liquid biopsies (ctDNA), urinary, or serum biomarkers for early detection, recurrence monitoring, and prognostication.
  • Advanced Imaging: Clinical applications of multi-parametric MRI, PET-CT with novel radiotracers (e.g., PSMA, FACBC), and contrast-enhanced ultrasound in diagnosis and staging.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Development and validation of AI algorithms for radiological image interpretation, pathological slide analysis, and predictive model building for disease outcomes.
  • Genomic and Molecular Classifiers: Clinical utility of genomic risk scores in prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer for guiding management decisions.
  • Point-of-Care Diagnostics: Innovations in rapid, non-invasive tests for hematuria workup, UTI diagnosis, or stone analysis.
  • Prognostic Model Development: Creation and validation of nomograms and risk calculators incorporating modern diagnostic parameters.
  • Comparative Effectiveness Research: Studies comparing the diagnostic accuracy or prognostic value of new technologies against current standard-of-care methods.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
