Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive collection of articles discussing the latest developments in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Glaucoma has been the focus of extensive research in recent years, leading to significant advancements in the field. However, there are still many challenges in the management of this disease. We encourage researchers to submit high-quality studies that explore new methods of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of glaucoma, as well as studies that examine the underlying mechanisms of the disease. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring the highest standards of scientific rigor and quality. This Special Issue will provide a platform for researchers to share their latest findings and contribute to advancing our understanding and management of glaucoma. Original papers or reviews on the following topics are welcome and will be considered for publication in this Special Issue:

  • Advances in glaucoma diagnosis: Latest developments in diagnostic tools and techniques for the early detection and monitoring of glaucoma.
  • Integration of artificial intelligence (AI): AI is increasingly used in glaucoma research to analyze large datasets and improve diagnostic accuracy. This includes the use of machine learning algorithms to identify patterns in optical coherence tomography and visual field data that may be indicative of glaucoma onset or progression.
  • Personalized medicine: There is growing interest in developing personalized treatment strategies for glaucoma that take into account individual patient characteristics, such as genetics and lifestyle factors. This may involve the use of biomarkers to identify patients at higher risk of developing the disease or to guide treatment selection.
  • Intraocular pressure-lowering strategies: medical, laser or surgical management of glaucoma. To address the challenges in the selection of the appropriate treatment for each patient or to report clinical outcomes of novel molecules, devices, or techniques.
  • Neuroprotection: latest research on neuroprotective strategies.
  • Improving access to glaucoma care: models that can help to overcome barriers to accessing care and increase patient outreach, such as virtual clinics, telemedicine, or home monitoring.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
