Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Thyroid imaging plays a crucial role in the accurate diagnosis and effective management of thyroid diseases, including thyroid cancer. It provides valuable insights into the characterization of tumor microenvironments, and offers opportunities for personalized treatment approaches. However, the field of thyroid imaging faces various challenges that need to be addressed for further advancements. In light of this, we are pleased to announce this Special Issue on "Thyroid Imaging Challenges and Opportunities: Advancing Precision Diagnosis and Treatment", which will aim to explore the latest research and developments in this area, including radiomics and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

This Special Issue aims to cover a wide range of topics related to thyroid imaging, highlighting both the existing challenges and the opportunities for innovation. We invite contributions in the form of research articles, literature reviews, and discussions on diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with thyroid imaging, with a particular emphasis on radiomics and AI integration.

The topics of focus for this Special Issue will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Multimodal imaging approaches combining PET, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound for a comprehensive evaluation of thyroid nodules and cancer.
  • Novel approaches in developing antibody-based imaging probes for the precise imaging of thyroid cancer and for overcoming clinical translation hurdles.
  • The integration of radiomics and AI algorithms for the improved risk stratification, diagnosis, and prediction of treatment responses in thyroid cancer.
  • Theranostic applications in thyroid cancer management, including image-guided interventions and targeted therapies.
  • Quantitative imaging biomarkers for thyroid cancer characterization and response assessment.
  • Emerging trends and innovations in AI-assisted thyroid imaging, such as deep learning algorithms and automated image analysis.
  • Theranostic applications of radioimmunoimaging probes in thyroid cancer management.

We anticipate that the research and insights shared in this Special Issue will contribute to meaningful scientific discussions and advancements in the field of thyroid imaging, particularly addressing the challenges associated with accurate thyroid cancer detection and treatment using radiomics and AI approaches.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
