Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Timely and accurate diagnosis is central to obstetric and gynecologic care, particularly in pregnancy where early recognition and appropriate triage can be decisive for maternal and fetal outcomes. This Special Issue, “Advances in Diagnostic Pathways for Pregnancy Complications and Gynecologic Disease,” focuses on clinically actionable advances that improve diagnostic pathways across pregnancy, reproductive health, and gynecologic disease. We particularly welcome contributions addressing early pregnancy assessment, placental disorders, hypertensive disease, fetal growth restriction, and preterm birth risk, while also encompassing infertility evaluation, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding and endometrial pathology, adnexal masses, pelvic floor disorders, and gynecologic malignancies.
We invite original research and high-quality reviews that refine diagnostic accuracy, risk stratification, and prognostication, and that support more personalized decision-making. Submissions may explore novel biomarkers and laboratory tests, advances in imaging and standardized reporting, and minimally invasive diagnostic techniques. Briefly, we also encourage robust evaluations of AI-enabled tools for decision support or multimodal data integration when methods are transparent, validated, and clinically interpretable.
Studies addressing external validation, reproducibility, real-world performance, implementation, and cost-effectiveness are particularly encouraged. Importantly, contributions incorporating women’s views and patient-reported outcomes/experiences are welcome, recognizing that trustworthy diagnostics must also be acceptable, clearly communicated, and aligned with shared decision-making.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
