Supply Chain Design and Management in the Industry 4.0 Era

This special issue belongs to the section “Smart Manufacturing System Design“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the last few years, supply chains have received rising attention with the rapid growth of global industries and brands. Consumers have started to demand more flexible and customized products and, consequently, industries are required to shorten production times and to cope with shorter product life cycles. All these features have brought many challenges to the supply chains.

In this context, the Industry 4.0 revolution introduced new tools to improve processes and management, but it also originated new challenges due to the introduction of new technologies. These changes have led to a revision of the methodologies of supply chain design and management. Moreover, the recent pandemic has forced further changes, speeding up the digitization of many processes. Companies discovered that agility was crucial to their short-term continuity and even long-term survival.

This Special Issue is, therefore, aimed at exploring the abundant research opportunities associated with supply chain design and management, and laying down a foundation for future research on this topic. Manuscript submissions in the areas that are mentioned as keywords below are highly encouraged.
