Recent Advances in Surface and Interface Engineering for Environmental Pollutant Remediation and Resource Recovery

This special issue belongs to the section “Environmental Aspects in Colloid and Interface Science“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to environmental and energy-related challenges. Modern society produces a variety of pollutants, both inorganic and organic, including greenhouse gases such as CO2, inorganic N, P elements- and heavy metal-contaminated water, organic wastewater, plastic waste, kitchen scraps, and biomass residue. These materials are increasignly being viewed as underutilized resources that have simply been neglected. Thus, the process of converting these pollutants and waste into valuable fuels or fundamental chemicals presents a dual advantage. Among the various strategies employed to facilitate this transformation, the engineering of surfaces and interfaces in catalyst regulation is of paramount importance. Approaches such as morphology manipulation, element doping, defect creation, the development of heterostructures, as well as coating and loading techniques are essential in enhancing the performance of catalysts to achieve this objective. In light of this, we are thrilled to introduce a new Special Issue of Coatings that aims to compile original research and review articles. This Special Issue will delve into the principles and applications of surface and interface engineering, thus elucidating the remarkable potential of this field to drive these vital conversions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
